Why Wetlands Need an Advocate

We’ve had a hunch — that most people hear very little about our wetlands, and don’t realise the true scale of their destruction.

That’s why we recently commissioned a representative poll of over 1000 people across NSW.

We found that most people in NSW simply don’t hear about coastal wetlands, and subsequently assume they are doing fine.

(Polling question: How often do you hear news or information about NSW's coastal wetlands?)

The data makes it clear, if we are to protect and restore our coastal wetlands, we need to raise their profile.

That's why we've been working to spread awareness about these incredible ecosystems.

We've produced this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dy8Yn7ldlaw

As well as these reels: https://www.nature.org.au/world_mangrove_day_2024

And have recently added more information to our campaign pages, including about why wetlands matter and the threats they're facing.

Meanwhile, we're busy hearing from those working on the ground to protect and restore wetlands, ready to take what we learn from the grassroots movement to parliament, and advocate for meaningful change to ensure that these climate-critical habitats get the attention and funding they deserve.

We've got some exciting projects in the works, so stay tuned to hear more - you can support our campaign here and stay in the loop by signing up to our mailing list below. Together, we can bring back our wetlands!
