We are custodians of an extraordinary diversity of native plants, animals and landscapes. We have a responsibility to protect these for their intrinsic value, but also because healthy, functioning ecosystems provide services critical for our wellbeing and way of life.
7.1 Stop excessive land clearing
The NSW Government must overhaul its biodiversity conservation laws and to stop further losses of critical wildlife habitat.
7.2 Restore degraded ecosystems and landscapes
Augment the work of the Biodiversity Conservation Trust by creating Restoration NSW, a new agency prioritising land restoration and carbon abatement projects. Ending logging and land clearing are vital but more needs to be done to restore degraded habitats and prevent extinctions.
7.3 Invest more in feral animal and weed control
Invasive species must be addressed as part of a whole-of-government response to the extinction crisis because they are one of the top three threats to wildlife and ecosystems.
