Our environment, our future

Everyone who lives in NSW deserves to breathe clean air, but that is not always the case. From diesel cars and trucks to coal power to wood heaters in homes, there are many pollution sources causing unnecessary loss of life. The government must act to vastly reduce this pollution.

3.1 Align NSW air quality standards with WHO guidelines
NSW and Australia’s air quality standards have fallen far behind the World Health Organisation (WHO) Guidelines and should be updated.

3.2 Strengthen enforcement and compliance measures
When local air quality standards are breached, action must be taken.

3.3 Establish a wood heater replacement scheme
The NSW Government should pay households to replace wood heaters.

3.4 Ensure vulnerable populations can enjoy healthy air
The NSW Government should introduce a subsidy scheme to support access to high-efficiency particle (HEPA) filters, and fix air pollution in classrooms.

3.5 Accelerate the shift to electric vehicles and public transport
Invest in policies that the support uptake of electric vehicles (EVs) and EV-related infrastructure.

3.6 Reduce emissions from coal and gas burning
Accelerate the switch to clean, renewable sources of electricity.
