Coal mines and unconventional gas projects are a significant source of greenhouse gases and a threat to public health, clean air and water, productive farmlands, natural areas and First Nations people’s cultural heritage.
2.1 End thermal coal exports by 2030 and all coal exports by 2035
To keep coal in the ground, refuse new coal exploration licences, mining leases, new mines and expansions.
2.2 Slash greenhouse gas emissions from coal mining projects
Overhaul policy to regulate and minimise fugitive and other emissions from coal mines.
2.3 Keep gas in the ground
Ban the exploration and development of unconventional gas in NSW.
2.4 Make mining companies pay full rehabilitation costs
Require companies to fully rehabilitate mine sites and power stations, and ensure they budget to pay the full cost of rehabilitation.
2.5 Double royalties from coal mining to 15%
Ensure windfall profits from high coal prices help pay for climate impacts on communities.
