This picnic is to be held at Sweeneys Travelling Stock Reserve (TSR) on Tarago Rd, approximately 9.5km northeast of Bungendore. It is a great site for a picnic, located in a high conservation value native vegetation remnant close to Bungendore, containing both native grassland and woodland, and is relatively convenient to get to for those travelling from the ACT and surrounding areas of NSW.

The plan, after we initially gather in the TSR, is to have a short safety briefing, a short introduction with one or two speakers, and then have a wander through before returning to our gathering point for a picnic lunch. In our intro and wander through we’ll be talking about and fielding questions about the natural values and conservation issues of remnant native grassy woodland and grassland communities in this area of southern eastern NSW. As with all of our site visits we’ll also be doing plenty of plant ID and possibly ID of any opportunistic fauna sightings that might present themselves. We will also endeavour to bring a portable display and publications (free and for sale).

PLEASE NOTE:

• Please RSVP to receive more details, updates, and notification in case we need to cancel or to postpone the event because of weather conditions or other factors.
• We plan to initially meet on Tarago Rd, near the short access track to the TSR entry gate for registration and to arrange carpooling from 9.40am (for a 10.00am start). The access track (~200m) to the TSR entry gate has been significantly eroded by runoff and is not likely to be repaired by then. Those with low clearance vehicles primarily intended for use on sealed roads are advised to not use this access track. They will have options to either walk in or grab a lift in with the organisers and others bringing suitable off-road vehicles.
• There are no toilet, rubbish or other facilities at this location.
• For our wander bring sturdy footwear, long sleeved shirt and pants, a hat, a water bottle, sunscreen, insect repellent, a camera, and your questions. For lunch bring your favourite picnic food and drink, rug (or portable camping chairs and table), utensils, and a bag to take away your waste. There should be no need for umbrellas or other shading equipment as lunch will be in a treed area with shade. Bearing in mind these COVID times we will be encouraging observance of appropriate measures e.g. suitable social distancing, non-sharing of food etc.
