  • Location: Sydney
  • Time Commitment: 6-8 hours per week for ongoing commitment (6 months)

Overview

The Nature Conservation Council of NSW (NCC) is the state’s peak environment organisation, representing over 200 environment groups across NSW. Together we are dedicated to protecting and conserving the wildlife, landscapes and natural resources of NSW. NCC is advocating for a clean energy system that protects and restores nature, where a thriving renewables industry enhances biodiversity, ecosystem health and connectivity.

We are seeking a passionate and detail-oriented volunteer to help us better understand the environmental impacts of renewable energy developments across New South Wales (NSW). The successful volunteer will track and analyse renewable energy projects, identifying which developments have positive or negative outcomes for nature and biodiversity. This important work will inform our advocacy and help shape better policies for both clean energy and environmental protection.

Key Responsibilities

  • Research and document existing and proposed renewable energy developments in NSW.
  • Analyse available environmental assessments, biodiversity reports, and planning documents.
  • Update database of renewable energy projects, their ecological outcomes, and time take for projects to move through the planning system.
  • Stay informed on relevant NSW government planning processes and environmental legislation.

Skills and Experience

  • A background or strong interest in environmental science, ecology, geography, renewable energy, planning, or a related field.
  • Experience in research and data analysis (qualitative and/or quantitative).
  • Ability to critically assess environmental impact statements and planning documents.
  • Strong written communication skills and attention to detail.

What You’ll Gain

  • Real-world experience at the intersection of environmental protection and renewable energy development.
  • Opportunity to contribute to meaningful advocacy and policy work.
  • Mentoring and support from an experienced team.
  • A flexible, supportive, and purpose-driven volunteering environment.
