The Nature Conservation Council of NSW (NCC) is the state’s peak environment organisation, representing over 200 local, state and national environment organisations in NSW.
Over the last three years, NCC’s community-based water campaign has elevated the environmental health of inland rivers and wetlands as an important social, cultural, and political issue. Our campaign elevates voices from the Murray-Darling Basin, builds support in eastern electorates, and advocates for improved water regulation directly to decision makers.
To achieve our exciting plans, we are looking for a dedicated individual to grow our team with this new volunteer role on the water campaign.
OPPORTUNITY:
Through this volunteer role, you will be able to:
- Deepen your understanding of water policy and regulation in NSW
- Learn about the NSW political process and power dynamics
- Contribute to the development and delivery of campaign tactics
- Gain valuable skills and important professional relationships that will bolster future job opportunities in policy development and environmental advocacy
POSITON PURPOSE:
The NCC Water Campaign Volunteer will assist with campaign activities, liaise with the NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water - Water Group and follow the development and implementation of some policy and regulatory processes including:
- Regional Water Strategies
- State Water Strategy
- Natural Resource Commission Water Sharing Plan Reviews
- Other opportunities for consultations as they arise
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
An NCC Water Campaign Volunteer would:
- Review consultation documents and previous submissions
- Attend Department consultations when available
- Summarise issues
- Contribute to submission development
- Possibility to extend the role into campaign areas to suit areas of interest

- Ability to summarise policy documents and produce briefing documents
- A clear communicator
- An interest in NSW and Murray-Darling Basin water policy is desirable
- Work program can be tailored to suit your existing interests and skills
