Join a small, dynamic team helping to strengthen the grassroots environment and climate movements across NSW. As part of Nature NSW’s new Grassroots Support Team, you’ll use your skills to assist local environmental groups with campaign communications, events, research and volunteer engagement, while developing your own leadership and organising skills.

ABOUT US:
Nature NSW is the state’s peak environment organisation, representing over 200 local, state and national environment organisations in NSW.
The Nature NSW Organising Team is responsible for growing and supporting the Nature NSW membership and the broader NSW environmental movement. We identify and develop community leaders, and organise events such as NCC’s Annual Conference and the Picnic for Nature.
POSITON PURPOSE:
To support Nature NSW Organising Team and member groups through practical communications, campaign, and coordination support, ultimately helping grow the capacity of the movement to protect nature and build momentum toward the 2027 NSW election.
OPPORTUNITY:
Through this volunteer role, you will be able to:
- Gain experience in environmental campaigning and community organising
- Deepen your understanding of the NSW environmental sector
- Contribute to meaningful, real-world conservation projects
- Build practical skills and professional networks in the environmental movement
- Be part of a friendly and supportive team working for nature
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Depending on your interests and skills, you may:
- Design social media graphics, videos, or posts to help promote local campaigns
- Help plan and coordinate community events, MP meetings, or webinars
- Support member groups to promote and strengthen their protected area proposals
- Draft supporter emails, newsletters or short stories highlighting campaign successes
- Research environmental issues, potential supporters, or campaign opportunities
- Assist with online petitions, volunteer coordination, or data management
- Assisting with the planning and delivery of training and workshops
DESIRED SKILLS/VALUES:
- Strong alignment with NCC’s mission to protect nature in NSW
- Interest in community organising, campaigning or conservation
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Willingness and initiative to learn and try new things
- Skills in one or more of the following areas (training provided where needed):
- Social media or graphic design
- Event organising
- Writing or storytelling
- Research or data management
- Community outreach
- Workshop delivery
