Federal EPA

We need a Federal EPA now!

Australia is known for its beautiful nature – from tropical rainforests to majestic inland rivers and sprawling coastal habitats. But nature is in decline.

Some of our most beloved creatures like the koala and greater glider are at risk of extinction. Habitat clearing, invasive species, and climate change are all threatening our unique plants and wildlife.

We need a federal watchdog - a national independent Environment Protection Authority (EPA) to enforce the laws that protect our state's most precious animals.

What is an EPA?

An independent EPA is a crucial watchdog for nature. An agency that will enforce the laws needed to protect wildlife and the places we love.

Why do we need an EPA?

Currently the environment minister chooses what developments (like mines and infrastructure projects) go ahead and what protections nature is given. Unfortunately, this means our koalas, gliders and bushland often lose to the power of vested interests from the big end of town!

That's why we need a strong and independent Environment Protection Authority: to take the politics out of environmental decision making.

Decision making under an EPA should be controlled by clear laws and the best science, not politics.

An EPA would provide transparency to decision making by publishing details of decisions and deliver efficiency by being armed with proper rules and expert regulatory expertise. Businesses would be given a quick NO to bad proposals, and a much quicker YES to acceptable developments, making sure that areas needed for conservation are off limits to big developers.

So what can we do?

Our leaders are failing us on nature. But right now, they are listening to your concerns in this crucial election period.

Our community’s voice is vital. This election, we can show our candidates that our community is calling for our precious wildlife to be protected with an EPA by displaying your FREE Nature needs a federal EPA sign.
