For more than 65 years, the Nature Conservation Council of NSW has been at the centre of the state’s most important conservation battles and notched up countless wins for wildlife, bushland, marine life and local communities.

We are based in Surry Hills, and work in a hybrid arrangement.
ROLE DESCRIPTION
We are seeking an energetic and passionate nature lover to join our team. Working with some of the leading environmental campaigners and organisers in NSW, you will support NCC’s core objective of giving nature a voice.
The role will see you work within the communications section of our organisation, a small team responsible for NCC’s fundraising and external communications, including supporter engagement, media, website and social media.
The successful applicant will work with the communications team to develop a mixed communications strategy for a given campaign area such as fire management, land clearing, climate action, native forest logging or moving NSW beyond coal.
The role will offer a diverse learning experience, where you will support the preparation of, and produce communications material including social media content, media releases, issue briefings, website and emails.
You will learn how to identify, write and communicate to specific audiences, work from messaging guides, build creative assets including video and digital content, and how persuasive communications is practised.
This position is a great entry point for someone studying, newly graduated or seeking a change and wanting experience working in the NGO sector.
Key tasks include:
- Producing media summaries
- Updating content and copy for websites and social media
- Designing social media and electronic direct mail content
- Supporting in the production of media release and government submissions
- Creating and implement campaign-specific communication messaging goals
- Identify and define target audiences, and the ways in which they can be reached
- Adapt writing styles for public-facing vs government-facing communications contexts
- Collate, organise, and update media contact information
- Answer inquiries and support the broader NCC team
KEY SELECTION CRITERIA
Required
- Enthusiasm for climate action, biodiversity protection, and social movement building
- An effective communicator and someone who writes competently for a range of audiences
- Some experience with digital communications
- Analytical skills and project planning and coordination skills
Extra Points for
- Knowledge of NSW planning and environment policy frameworks
- An interest in state politics and knowledge about the NSW parliamentary process
