A dirty, dangerous industry we do not need
Nuclear energy is a dirty, dangerous and expensive distraction from the urgent work of tackling global heating by replacing coal power with wind, solar and storage.
Uranium mining, nuclear power stations and radioactive waste dumps are currently illegal in NSW for a very good reason – they pose a massive risk to human health and the environment.
But NSW National Party Leader John Barilaro says his party will support a One Nation bill to end the state’s 36-year-old prohibition on this dangerous industry.
We must not let the Nationals and One Nation succeed.

12 regions at risk from nuclear facilities
Under the National Party/One Nation nuclear plan, people in at least 12 regions in NSW could soon be living next door to a nuclear power plant or some other nuclear facility.
So far, the Nationals are refusing to say which communities it will target, but the nuclear lobby group Nuclear for Climate Australia has named 12 regions where it wants to put 18 nuclear reactors, including:
- North Coast (Grafton, Coffs Harbour, Port Macquarie)
- Upper Hunter (Singleton, Muswellbrook)
- Mid-north Coast (Newcastle, Raymond Terrace, Nelson Bay, Hawkes Nest)
- Shoalhaven (Jervis Bay)
- Central West (Lithgow)
- Snowy Mountains
- Albury/Wodonga
Nuclear is a dangerous and expensive distraction from the urgent work of transitioning from coal to clean energy and storage.
The people of NSW don’t want nuclear and they don’t need it.
Wind and solar are by far the cheapest, cleanest and most sustainable way to meet our energy needs and they offers regional areas a very bright future.
Keep NSW nuclear free!
