Speak up for strong nature laws
Federal Labor came to the last election with a promise to fix our broken nature laws and they failed to deliver. Now we need to turn up the pressure on them to make this reform a priority for their next term.
Australia is a global deforestation hotspot and among the worst countries in the world for species extinction. Our national environment law—the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation (EPBC) Act—is failing to do its job. The Albanese Government committed to creating strong new nature laws and a national Environment Protection Agency. But after shelving reform in their last term, they’ve failed to act.
Meanwhile, threatened species like koalas, greater gliders and large forest owls continue to lose their homes to logging, mining and land clearing. Without urgent reform, this destruction will continue.
Now, with a second term in power and a clear public mandate, we can’t accept more delays.
Join thousands of people across Australia calling on the government to deliver on their promise—and to do it now. Help us reach 10,000 voices by signing our petition today.
PS we will be in touch over the coming months about actions you can take to put pressure on the NSW Government for stronger state laws too!
Dear Hon. Murray Watt,
Australia is in the grip of an extinction crisis. We desperately need strong new nature laws that protect nature and provide a thriving future for threatened species like the koala and greater gliders.
You now have a second term in government and a clear mandate to act. Please don’t delay.
We are calling on you to urgently:
- Introduce strong new national nature laws that actually protect wildlife and ecosystems
- Establish an independent federal Environment Protection Agency with real powers to enforce the law
- Deliver the full package of reforms the Labor Government promised
To achieve your Government’s goal of no new extinctions, these reforms must be a top priority—not shelved again.
Australians want nature laws that work. Please act now.
