Poll shows conservative voters want bold action on climate and energy
Conservative voters want to see a plan to boost clean energy and reduce the state’s contribution to climate change, according to the latest Essential Media poll.
43% of Liberal and National voters said they were more inclined to vote for a party with good clean energy and climate change policies, while only 25% said they were less likely.
“Voters deserted the liberals in Wentworth over climate change, and today’s poll shows that it’s a statewide phenomenon,” Nature Conservation Council CEO Kate Smolski said.
“This is bad news for the Berejiklian government, which after eight years of Coalition rule still doesn’t have a climate change policy or a renewable energy target.
“It a wake-up call for the Premier and the Coalition as they drift towards the election with little to offer voters on climate change action and clean energy.
“The Premier has four weeks left to embrace clean energy and chart a new course for NSW, or risk being left behind by voters.”
The poll also shows a significant public appetite for a rapid transition from fossil fuels to renewables.
“Most people think we should source at least half our power from clean sources within 10 years,” Ms Smolski said.
“This survey shows that the Berejiklian’s inaction on climate change isn’t due to lack of public support but political will.”
