NSW loses 1020 renewable energy jobs in 2015/16
“Employment data released by the ABS today shows that the renewable energy jobs boom is suffering from policy uncertainty." [1]
ABS data shows that 2920 people were employed in NSW’s renewable energy industry last financial year, down from 3940 jobs in 2014/15. Solar continued to provide the bulk of the jobs.
“The data shows that job opportunities in renewable energy are being lost.
“The most obvious explanation for the downturn is the current policy uncertainty. We know that there are $13bn of projects in the planning pipeline in NSW, which translates to roughly 8000 additional direct jobs.
“It’s time for Premier Berejiklian to set a renewable energy target for NSW and unleash this wave of clean energy investment.”
“Wind and solar are employing thousands of people in regional NSW, right were jobs are needed most.”
“To avoid dangerous climate change, we can’t afford to let the clean energy industry falter.”
