Nest-box project: An update from the forests
Earlier this year, we launched a project to provide emergency shelter for native animals left homeless after the devastating 2019-20 bushfires, which swept through millions of hectares of forest up and down the east coast.
In this video, NCC ecologist Pete Knock explains how the nest-box project on the mid-north coast is progressing.
We had an overwhelming response from people who wanted to directly support fire-affected wildlife. Their generous support is enabling us to install more than 300 new homes for gliders and other forest-dwelling species.
Once the boxes are installed, we will move into the monitoring stage of the project. This involves recording the return of native species to these forests and their breeding success.
A sincere thank-you to all those who donated to this project. We will provide another update in spring, when we hope to bring you video of baby gliders and other native animals reared in the boxes you have helped us instal.
