Are you passionate about protecting native wildlife and bushland, ending climate pollution, and fighting for environmental justice? Do you have strong writing and design skills and experience using digital communications to engage audiences and build movements for positive change?

We are seeking a Digital Campaigner who can create engaging, shareable content, and develop digital strategies that will rapidly expand our community of supporters and amplify our voice in the crowded digital marketplace.

The Nature Conservation Council and the environment groups we represent have been winning protections for nature in NSW for more than 60 years. We’ve been at the centre of many of the state’s iconic conservation battles, and have notched up countless wins for nature and local communities.

Today, we are focused on cleaning up the state’s dirty electricity system, ending unsustainable tree clearing on farms and in our forests, bringing our rivers back to health, and giving the marine life in our coastal waters the protection it deserves.

The Digital Campaigner will work closely with other staff on all these campaigns to deepen the engagement of our supporters and attract new donors.

We have big plans for building the movement for a sustainable future and are looking for someone to help make that happen.

Communications Manager


Part time (4 days = 30.4hrs/week) flexible schedule


12 months with possible extension depending on funding


$65,000 - $75,000 pa pro rata plus superannuation


  • Implement a digital strategy that meets our campaign and fundraising objectives, including the rapid growth of supporter and donor lists, and increased engagement.
  • Develop compelling digital content to share with our networks, motivate people to act, and engage new audiences.
  • Write emails that motivate supporters to increase their involvement in and commitment to our campaigns, including by donating.
  • Help maintain websites and social media accounts.
  • Help manage our online communications calendar and coordinate supporter, member group and donor engagement strategies.
  • Develop user journeys for online and email actions that move supporters up the ladder of engagement.
  • Monitor, test and analyse recruitment and engagement response rates, and adapt tools and techniques to increase audience participation rates.

In a typical week as our digital communications specialist you may:

  • Design a flier for a campaign to promote a local event.
  • Turn a TV news report into a video for social media.
  • Develop a digital engagement plan to grow our supporter list around a campaign moment, such as an event or government announcement.
  • Live tweet a community forum.
  • Write a supporter email to encourage people to take action.


Applicants must have a legal right to work in Australia for the period of the contract. Applicants must address all the essential and desirable selection criteria in their application.


  • Demonstrated ability to deliver and manage digital strategies that support social change and/or fundraising campaigns.
  • Experience in digital campaigning, including high-level use of email, websites, social media, and other online platforms and tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to create compelling graphic designs and online content.
  • Demonstrated ability to gather and analyse online behaviour data, conduct tests, and use the information gathered to fine-tune digital strategies and tactics.
  • Demonstrated strong writing skills.
  • Good organisational skills, including time management, attention to detail, the ability to work to tight deadlines, and willingness to work flexible hours.


  • Demonstrated ability to create compelling short videos.
  • Demonstrated success at crowd-sourced fundraising.
  • Knowledge and experience with NationBuilder and Campaign Monitor platforms.
