Koalas not coal
The Shenhua coal mine will devastate the Liverpool Plains koala population. The local koala population has already been decimated by heatwaves and drought, with an estimated 70% drop in numbers since 2009. The Shenhua mine will destroy 847 hectares of habitat pushing the iconic koala closer to local extinction.
The government is set to give the go-ahead for Shenhua to blast a massive coal mine in the heart of this beautiful country, in what's known as 'The Koala Capital of the World'. Read more about Shenhua's devastating plan for koalas in our joint report with the local landcare group.
Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce says he opposes the mine but it is still sailing towards approval. Now he needs to act - and fast!
Can you email Barnaby Joyce and tell him that 847 hectares of precious koala habitat cannot be mined for coal?
